For many PC users Outlook can sometimes be slow to use, even on apparently fast computers. This is because Microsoft have added many features that run in the background, however, are not used by most people. If you turn them off you will significantly speed up your Outlook.

For Outlook 2010: File > Options
For Outlook 2007: File > Trust Centre

Click Add-ins menu (second from bottom) and then Click the “Go” button next to Manage COM add-ins

3. Hosted Exchange users
If you are using Hosted Exchange and only use your Outlook for email and calendar then you can safely un-tick all the boxes apart from “Microsoft Exchange Add-in”.

Other Users

If you are not using Hosted Exchange or are using other programs that interact with you Outlook, please contact your IT support for further advice on which Add-ins can be safely disabled.

QUESTION: Each time I look some of my Add-ins have become ticked again, even though I had un-ticked them.

This is normal. Some required Add-ins will automatically enable themselves. Just leave them enabled if they do so.
